Otakunofuji.com is a review / editorial site covering video games, anime, sumo wrestling, and giant monsters! Why such a range of topics? Because we love them all and are passionate about them, that's why! We'll do reviews, feature articles, tier lists, top ten(+) lists, and that sort of thing.
Video Games
Our goal isn't to cover everything on these topics. Our games coverage is going to skew towards anime / fanservice-y stuff that a lot of other outlets thumb their noses at, but we want to cover them honestly as fans instead of lecturing you on why you're not supposed to like them. Other types of games will almost certainly slip in here and there as well, but don't expect us to cover every mainstream "AAA" flavor of the week game, because we just aren't all that interested in them to tell the truth. We're also only really going to do console games for now, not Steam. Why? Because pervy fanservice games feel more naughty on consoles and rather pointless on PC.
Anime
Likewise, anime coverage is going to lean towards fanservice-y slice of life, rom-coms, comedy, and things like that. We definitely won't be covering popular shonen and the like, because we just don't enjoy watching it. New shows, old shows, we're going to cover whatever we feel like. But we absolutely positively will not ever do individual episode reviews - only full seasons / series reviews. Reviewing individual episodes is a total waste of time that other sites do in order to squeeze as many pageviews out of you as they can. That's freaking gross. As mentioned above, anime video game coverage will be a focus as well.
Sumo
Sumo wrestling is a real passion of ours and we want to share that passion with the masses. English language coverage of sumo is pretty dire, to be honest, with even the "big" sumo blogs and YouTube channels kind of sucking at it. Yeah, we're throwing shade. We just want to cover it without all of the typocs and inaccuracies and editorializing that everyone else seemingly can't avoid. Sumo video game coverage is also planned, but there aren't that many of them, and they're all exclusively in Japanese, but we'll do our best.
Kaiju
Our kaiju coverage will include movie reviews and rankings as well as coverage of any giant monster video games we can get our hands on. Admittedly, Godzilla is going to get the bulk of attention, because it's the best, but we'll branch out to other kaiju stuff as much as we can.
Review Practices
Our reviews aren't going to be a typical traditional format. No boilerplate gameplay-graphics-sound-etc. format for games, for example. Instead, we just want to offer our honest opinions about specific aspects of whatever game or anime without having to cover all of the bases. It's more free-flowing and conversational, which is a lot more fun to read as well as write.
One thing we will promise you - We well never ever ever review single episodes of anime. That is a complete waste of time and other sites only do it to squeeze as many pageviews out of you as possible. We will only review full seasons / full series of anime.
Review scores for games and anime will be on a 10-point scale and we will do our best to use the whole scale. To be honest, though, we probably aren't going to bother with anything truly horrid, so 1-3 probably isn't going to be used much at all.
Also, if we receive a product for review from a publisher / developer, that will be disclosed on the review page.
Videos
Videos are going to be the main focus of the site. Written articles are most likely going to just be the text from our voice over scripts. Videos will be embedded on review / article pages, but you can find all of them at https://www.youtube.com/@otakunofuji
Who Is Otakunofuji?
Otakunofuji is Eric Qualls, who has been a games journalist covering the industry for 20-years. He started at GamesFirst.com as a reviewer and editor, had a review published in GMR magazine, and eventually had a long term gig as the Xbox Expert for About.com for 12-years. After that he made a new site called PSXboxIndies that covered, you guessed it, console indie games. Now he's turned his focus towards a broader range of topics instead of just video games.
The Otakunofuji persona was originally born in a brief attempt to be a vtuber. Vtubing is a huge pain in the butt, though, so that didn't last long. We liked making videos as a persona instead of being just another guy, though, so we stuck with that aspect of it. And our vtuber model has become our channel / site mascot because a purple haired anime catgirl is a lot more pleasant to look at than, again, "just another guy".
The Otakunofuji name is our sumo wrestling shikona that we feel perfectly communicates our sumo-loving, trashy game and anime addicted otaku personality. It's all in good fun.
